AI Use Policy in Hiring
At Code.org, our mission is to ensure every student in every school has the opportunity to learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Science (CS) as part of their core education. And just as we educate students and teachers on using AI responsibly and ethically, we hold ourselves to the same standard.
Our commitment to responsible AI-use extends beyond the classroom. It shapes how we operate as an organization, including how we hire. We use AI thoughtfully, transparently, and in line with our values to create a fair and human-centered hiring process. In doing so, we model the same principles we teach: using technology to enhance decision-making, not replace it.
How We Use AI: We use AI tools to assist with certain administrative parts of our hiring process, such as organizing candidate information, identifying fraudulent applications, and summarizing interview notes. These tools help our team focus more time on meaningful human interactions with candidates.
AI will never make a hiring decision at Code.org. Every stage of evaluation, from resume review to final decision-making, involves thoughtful consideration by our hiring team.
How Candidates May Use AI We recognize that AI can be valuable in the job search process. You are welcome to use AI tools to:
Serve as a thought partner to help reflect on how your experience aligns with a role
Draft cover letters that you edit (no copy/paste)
Prepare for interviews through mock questions and research
What’s Not Okay While we support thoughtful use of AI, certain uses undermine fairness and honesty in the hiring process. We ask that candidates do not:
Spam applications through the use of AI agents
Generate fake credentials or misrepresent skills and experience
Use AI during interviews and take-home assignments without explicit consent from the interview team
Leverage AI in ways that conflict with the spirit of fairness, authenticity, or trust
Such use goes against our values of integrity and transparency and will result in disqualification from the hiring process.
Let’s Work Together AI is here to stay and we all benefit from its potential to make work and learning more efficient, creative, and accessible. At Code.org, we’re committed to using AI responsibly, and we expect the same from our candidates. Together, we can ensure that technology supports fairness, authenticity, and the human connection at the heart of every great hire.
