One moment. One world. Millions of futures to shape.
Artificial intelligence is already changing how we learn, work, and live. Yet right now, many students are on the sidelines—using AI without understanding how it works, how to use it responsibly, or how to shape what’s coming next.
What if students of all ages could move from watchers to leaders?
What if they didn’t just use AI but helped decide how it changes the world?

Introducing the Hour of AI
Building on over a decade of success with the Hour of Code, our new global initiative launching this fall is designed to help students and educators everywhere take their first step into understanding and creating with AI.
Through hands-on, easy-to-follow activities, learners around the world will demystify AI and imagine what’s possible when they harness it for good.
Because the future isn’t something we wait for.
It’s something we build—together.
Why this matters.
Students are creators, not just users
AI is all around them. Hour of AI empowers students to move from users to creators, building the skills to shape their future with it.
Adults are learners too
This is a moment when everyone is learning about AI simultaneously. You don’t need to be an AI expert to lead Hour of AI. It’s designed for anyone to teach—simple, hands-on, and ready to go.
Participation begins with access
AI literacy should reach every student, in every community, across the globe. This initiative makes sure learners in any country can join.
And yes—AI can be fun
From building in Minecraft to creating AI-generated art, students explore AI through the games and apps they already love.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the Hour of AI?
The Hour of AI is available year-round! While it's anchored in Computer Science Education Week each December, there are special moments of activation throughout 2025-2026.
What does this mean for the Hour of Code?
The Hour of AI is an evolution of the Hour of Code, created in response to the growing call to expand foundational AI literacy alongside computer science. The most beloved Hour of Code activities aren’t going anywhere while we focus our efforts on expanding high-quality, hands-on AI education.
How can activity providers submit an Hour of AI activity?
New student and adult-focused activity submissions will be accepted for the Hour of AI. More information, including a submission timeline, is forthcoming. Please sign up for more information and to be invited to future activity provider webinars. Hour of Code activity submissions will no longer be reviewed. We encourage past and new activity providers to submit an activity for the Hour of AI.
Why the focus on AI now?
The Hour of AI isn’t just another classroom activity. It’s a global call to action in response to a fast-changing world. Right now, students, parents, educators, and leaders are all asking the same question: How will I shape our future with AI? And yet, the education community lacks a shared path forward. Definitions are inconsistent, approaches are fragmented, and most teachers still haven’t received training on AI. That’s where the Hour of AI comes in. It offers a clear, inclusive, and action-oriented vision. An Hour of AI for:
- Every learner—in classrooms, libraries, homes, and community centers
- Every teacher—no tech background required
- Every leader—to build a vision for education in the age of AI
- Every partner—to showcase leadership and amplify impact globally
- That unites the world—with a shared definition of AI literacy grounded in empowerment, not fear
- An Hour of AI all year—anchored by global moments like CSEdWeek and others throughout the year.
Just like the Hour of Code sparked a movement, the Hour of AI can shape how we prepare the next generation to lead—not just consume—this new era of technology.
When will we hear more about the Hour of AI?
The Hour of AI will officially launch this fall. Activity providers will begin receiving information in July. Further details about participating or additional materials for hosting an Hour of AI event will be released in September. Check back often and sign up for updates.
